Buying a domain is an important event in the life of the site that brings pitfalls. If you are planning to start your own business, you should initially think about a domain name and check if the desired name is occupied. If the name is free - good, but it's half the battle. The second task after choosing a name is to check whether it has been used before.

If the name is clean, you get a completely new domain with zero ranking weight in search engines, which you have to raise yourself. If the name has already been used before, then you need to make sure that it worked according to all the rules and whether it is on the black list of search engines. In the same article, we will consider the domain validity period, how to buy a domain, how not to miss a domain name before the expiration date and other important issues related to the domain name.

Why does it happen: I buy a domain name, but it was already in use before?

Such situations happen sometimes. For many, reselling domain names with a weight rating and attendance is a business. Having bought such a URL it is easier to start a new business, as the site will take the higher position in the search line. It also happens that you simply find a name that previously once functioned, but the previous owner did not extend the lifetime of the domain and it went into free access.

Each domain has a life period, it is indicated in the registration contract. If after the expiration of the registration period, the client does not renew it, then the domain is deleted and there is a possibility of re-registration after that.

As already noted, each domain has its own registration period, it ranges from 1 to 10 years, depending on the zone. Let's consider the most important domain zones for Ukraine.

Periods of life of Ukrainian and international domain zones

National and international domain zones have a different period of life. Among the internal ones, we will consider .UA, .COM.UA, .ORG.UA, NET.UA domains, which are popular among Ukrainian users.

National Domain Zones

National domains differ from each other by the period of registration and the period of life.

Minimum registration period: 1 year.
Maximum registration period: .NET.UA - 2 years, .UA, .COM.UA, .ORG.UA - 10 years.

Renewal period: from 60 to 90 days. It starts 60 days before the end of the domain registration period and lasts 30 days after the end of this period. If the domain name is not renewed within the stated time, it will be removed from delegation.

Recovery period: if the owner did not take the opportunity to renew the domain in the required period, the domain zone falls into the Redemption Period or during the recovery period - this is the time when the domain can be restored, but at an increased price, which is set by the administrator of each domain zone individually. Not all domains fall into the Redemption Period, for example, the UA, .COM.UA, .ORG.UA zones have it, but NET.UA does not.

Deletion period: on the 31st day after the domain registration expires, the domain names are deleted from the registry. The exceptions are weekends, holidays and days after the weekend. On the day of deletion, the domain name becomes pendingDelete.

International domain zones

International domain zones differ from regional ones in terms of renewal, restoration and deletion.

Minimum registration period: 1 year.

Maximum registration period: from 1 year to 10 years.

Renewal period: 40 days. At this time, the extension will cost the buyer at the usual cost.

Recovery period: if after the expiration of the renewal period the use of the domain name has not been renewed, it will go to the Redemption Period. In this case, it can be returned 5-10 times more expensive than extended. Redemption is 30 days.

Deletion period: if the name has not been renewed, then it will go to the deletion registry - this happens on the 71st day. In this case, it is already impossible to restore or extend it.

If the domain name is not renewed, then, as a result, it will go through the process of removal and will be re-registered. If a site has been working for a long time, earning weight in the ranking of search engines, but for some reason its functioning has come to an end and the domain has become available, then this is a good chance to get a name that is no longer with zero SEO indicators.

Never delay the domain name renewal time if you intend to continue to use it. Even if you are not sure about future plans, but the site has already received some feedback and traffic, losing the name will be much more difficult than extending it.
